About Method Art
Artspace was formed in 2002 to house galleries, artists and studios under one roof making a small artist community with a large market. In the spring of 2009, fine art photographer, Davin Lavikka took over artspace giving his on-line gallery a new home and giving himself an opportunity to open a commercial photography studio in the middle of it. Recently the gallery was moved to a new space at 4142 N. Marshall Way giving Davin the opprotunity to change the name to Method.
Method continues in the same tradition of having artist studios infused with the gallery as set by its original owners. The only major changes are the dominance of local artists and the addition of a fine art photography gallery. In this new environment artists studio space and in turn the gallery takes a smaller commission then a traditional gallery. The idea of artists paying small rents gives the gallery more stability over a traditional gallery in a tough economy and also promotes more marketing power giving the artists even higher visibility.
Another aspect of the original idea that is further explored is using Method as a venue for a unique meeting space. The current building at 3,800 sqft. is two stories with a small kitchen ,two bathrooms, balcony, and a large common area. This space has been used for classes, seminars, private parties, and weddings.
